The Detail

About this piece

An oxidised silver set is a matched necklace and jhumka pair finished with an antique blackened patina — the standard festive combination worn with kurtis, sarees and lehengas across north India. anokhi's set is certified 925 sterling silver: a 16-inch necklace with a hand-worked medallion and a closed ghungroo fringe, plus the matching bell-drop jhumka, both oxidised in the same bath so the two pieces sit at exactly the same tone. About 14 g of silver combined, weight stated in grams, and priced roughly 20% below buying the necklace and the jhumka separately.

How to wear

Built for festive wear — a boat or round neckline with a plain blouse lets the medallion read; a heavy dupatta over the shoulder will just swallow it. Wear the jhumka on their own with a kurti on ordinary days. Oxidised silver dislikes perfume, sanitiser and sweat, so put the set on last and wipe it dry before it goes back in the pouch. Buff only the raised surfaces with the cloth supplied; polishing into the recesses strips out the dark contrast that makes the handwork visible.

Silver care

Wipe with the cloth in your box after wear, and store the piece dry in its pouch — trapped moisture is what darkens silver fastest. Put jewellery on last, after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take it off before a bath, the pool or the gym. Tarnish, when it appears, is a harmless surface reaction that wipes off — and it only happens to real silver. Avoid toothpaste and baking soda on rhodium, gold-plated or oxidised finishes. Questions

Frequently asked

Will the oxidised black finish rub off?

It is a chemical patina on the silver itself, not a coating over another metal, so there is nothing to flake. What does happen with wear is that the raised surfaces gradually brighten while the recesses stay dark — that contrast is the point of the finish, and it improves over the first few months. If the whole piece ever looks flat, we re-oxidise it at our Jaipur workshop for the cost of shipping.

Is this set hallmarked? Does it have a 925 hallmark number?

The necklace carries a BIS hallmark for 925 purity and the jhumka are 925 stamped. Neither has a 925 hallmark, and no silver jewellery in India does — 925 hallmark belongs to the mandatory gold hallmarking scheme. BIS hallmarking of silver under IS 2112 is voluntary, so a seller quoting a 925 hallmark on a silver piece is a red flag rather than a credential. Your certificate of authenticity states the purity and the exact combined weight.

Is this real 925 sterling silver?

Yes. Every anokhi piece is solid 925 sterling silver (92.5% pure), BIS hallmarked for 925 purity where applicable, and ships with a certificate of authenticity — never silver-plated or German silver.

Will it tarnish, and how do I care for it?

Pieces carry an anti-tarnish finish. Wipe with the included cloth, avoid perfume/water contact, and store dry in the pouch between wears to keep them bright for years.

What are the shipping, COD and return terms?

Free shipping above ₹999, cash on delivery pan-India, and 7-day easy returns on unused, hallmarked items in original packaging. Authenticity issues are refunded in full.
