Silver Molathadu & Aranjanam · Kardhani
The thin silver waist chain, for babies, children and men.
A molathadu is the thin silver waist chain traditionally tied on a baby in the first months and worn by many men through adult life. The name is Telugu; it is araignan kodi in Tamil, aranjanam in Malayalam, udidhara in Kannada and kardhani in Hindi. This collection has three in 925 sterling silver: a baby molathadu with smooth rounded links and a screw clasp in 16, 18 and 20 inches, a kids' waist chain with a small nazariya charm in 20, 22 and 24 inches with a growth extender, and a men's aranjanam that lies flat under clothing and adjusts from 32 to 38 inches. Each is BIS hallmarked and gift-boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
About silver molathadu & aranjanam
What is a molathadu called in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi?
Molathadu is the Telugu name. In Tamil it is araignan kodi (or araignan kayiru when it is a thread), in Malayalam aranjanam, in Kannada udidhara and in Hindi kardhani. They all describe the same thin waist chain or thread worn at the waist.
Which size molathadu should I buy for a baby?
Measure the baby's waist with a soft tape and add two fingers of ease. Our baby molathadu comes in 16, 18 and 20 inches; for a toddler or young child, the kids' chain in 20, 22 or 24 inches has a growth extender. Move up a size as the child grows rather than stretching the chain.
Is a silver molathadu safe for a newborn?
Ours are made for it: smooth rounded links with no sharp edges and a screw clasp that cannot pop open. As with any jewellery on a baby, put it on only while an adult can see the child, and check the fit every few months.
Is there a silver molathadu for men?
Yes. The men's aranjanam is a plain, flat-lying 925 silver waist chain worn under clothing, adjustable from 32 to 38 inches with a screw clasp that stays shut.
Is it real silver?
Yes. All three are 925 sterling silver, BIS hallmarked, and ship with a certificate of authenticity. We do not sell plated steel or German silver as silver.
